Yellowstone and Grand Teton

Yellowstone is a photographers playground. The colors there are ridiculous and practically begged me to work with them in HDR.

Sulfure pool outlet, high concentrations of minerals in the water give it it's various colors

Norris Geyser Basin, HDR

The land is wiped clean in some places by the boiling water from the thermal features and concentrated minerals in the water

American Bison, highly skilled at causing traffic jams

 Mammoth hot springs

The outlet of a thermal feature, the deposits have built up over years and are now large mounds of colorful rock

Glacier Nation Park and Western Montana

These are some of my favorites from Western Montana and Glacier National Park. We entered Montana from the Southwest side, went through Missoula, the up toward Flathead lake, and then into Glacier. Once we crossed the Montana line, it rained on us for 5 days straight, This made exploring Glacier more of a challenge, but we stuck it out camping for 3 days. After a few days in Glacier we headed south trying to escape the weather. We finally broke out of the freezing rain near Bozemann.

The Hungry Horse Dam

Providing power for the northwest

The rain made for dramatic scenery. Huge glacier carved peaks disappearing into the clouds.

River rocks, they were shockingly colorful

The water would build up on the edges of our shelter tarp and then fall off in sheets

An old hotel, near Three Forks. They didn't have any beds for us that night

Fields of wheat, with snow capped peaks looking over them

The Sawtooth range

I loved the Sawtooth so much, I wold have been happy to spend all our time here.

The road along Prairie Creek, only 30 minutes from Ketchum Idaho

The outlet stream of Hell Roaring Lake.

Coal, after enjoying a swim in the lake, with Will enjoying not carrying a pack at the moment

The Finger of Fate, looking appropriately ominous.

The Sawtooth range, near the headwaters of the Salmon river, a wild and beautiful place

The far end of Redfish Lake, I think the prettiest lake we saw on the trip.

A thunderstorm raging one ridge over from us, but all was peaceful at Redfish.

The water was so clear, the depth here below the dock I'm standing on was well over my head, maybe 10 ft deep.

Grand Canyon to Idaho

From Grand Canyon to the Cache Mountains in Southern Idaho.

 Big Rock Candy Mountain
(I'm not sure if it's actually called that)
Bridge built for the Paiute ATV trail

The capitol building in Salt Lake City, Utah

 Purple wildflower

Large Butterfly, possibly a silver spotted skipper? I cant identify it for sure.

Las Cruces to Grand Canyon

The first leg of our adventure, from Las Cruces, to Grand Canyon
Our camp under the full moon, near Glenwood, NM.

The morning after our second night, at Cinder Hills ORV recreation area. The black gravel that covered the area gave the place a lunar appearance. I would like to come back here and explore.

Desert cliffs on the way to the North Rim

The CJ-5, mythical beast, near the Vermillion Cliffs National Monument

The Vermillion Cliffs, near Lee's ferry

North Rim Sunset, Grand Canyon National Park

The view from atop the 120ft fire tower, note the CJ-5 at the bottom.
